CAT 259D rubber track sizes

Track size Width Tread pattern Best for
320 x 86 x 53 320mm (≈12.6″) C-lug / block All-round use, hard ground & tarmac, smooth ride
400 x 86 x 53 400mm (≈15.7″) Multi-bar Wet, soft and muddy ground — maximum traction & flotation

The size is written as width x pitch x links — so 320 x 86 x 53 is 320mm wide, 86mm pitch, 53 drive links. The factory-standard fitment on most 259D machines is the 320 x 86 x 53. The wider 400 x 86 x 53 is the popular upgrade for operators working soft or sensitive ground who need lower ground pressure and more flotation.

Which track should I choose?

Will it fit my 259D?

These tracks are built to the same dimensional spec as the original Caterpillar fitment — same width, pitch and 53-link count, same steel-corded reinforced rubber construction. They run on the standard 259D sprockets and rollers and bolt straight on. If your machine has been set up with the wider 400mm undercarriage, order the 400 x 86 x 53. If you’re unsure which you’re running, measure the width across the ground-contact face or check the size stamped on the inside of your current track.

Frequently asked questions

What size rubber tracks does a CAT 259D take?

The standard Caterpillar 259D rubber track is 320 x 86 x 53 (320mm wide, 86mm pitch, 53 links) with a C-lug tread. A wider 400 x 86 x 53 multi-bar track is also available for soft-ground work.

How wide is a CAT 259D track?

The standard track is 320mm (about 12.6 inches) wide. The optional flotation track is 400mm (about 15.7 inches) wide.

Are aftermarket 259D tracks as good as CAT OEM tracks?

A quality aftermarket track is built to the same size and steel-corded construction as the OEM track, so it fits the same sprockets and rollers and wears the same — at a much lower price.

How long do CAT 259D tracks last?

Expect roughly 1,200–2,000 hours depending on ground conditions, tension and how the machine is operated. Keeping correct track tension and avoiding hard turns on abrasive surfaces extends their life.
